Using an Outdoor Rug on Your Deck

There are a number of ways to make your deck feel more welcoming and friendly. From staining your deck with a clear coat to give it that classic American feeling, to adding hanging plants and flags, decks can really be spruced up and turn into a place guests feel at home. A great tip we have for really making your deck feel like an extension of your living room is to use an outdoor rug.

Outdoor furniture that looks like it is made for the indoors has become wildly popular in the last few years. It is no longer limited to white plastic tables and chairs – now we have high quality wicker, waterproof seat cushions, outdoor lamps, and outdoor rugs just as suitable for use indoors. The outdoor rugs are really a marvel in modern manufacturing. If they are made of quality, durable materials, they can withstand the most extreme weather conditions, both hot and cold.

Home Depot, Lowes, and many online rug retailers carry a wide array of designs, shapes, colors, manufacturers, and styles. We suggest taking a look at your deck and seeing where you think a rug would look best. For many, it may be that you want it to look like a dining room so you buy a rug that is fitted for right underneath the outdoor table. This can be a good look, but there are also many other ways in which you can utililize a rug in non-traditional manners. Depending on the shape and size of you deck, you may be able to use a runner, a round rug, or even other odd shaped rugs.

Take a look online and in your local stores and explore all of the options in rugs that you have. You may really be surprised by the vast variety and options you have. Just a few years ago you had to buy the green Astroturf style carpet if you wanted something that could (kinda) withstand the weather. Now, beautiful designer rugs will last years and years.
